Surgery

So your pet needs surgery. Suddenly you're filled with anxiety, uncertainty, uneasiness. You want to know that your companion will be kept as safe and comfortable as possible, and will be given the best possible chance at a positive outcome. At Henry County Animal Hospital, we recognize that having to bring a family member in for a surgery, regardless of whether they are two-legged or four-legged, can be a stressful time for you both. We understand exactly what you're going through. Why? Because we've been there ourselves. That's why we take every measure to make sure that each surgery performed at our hospital is as stress-free an experience as possible.

Our doctors are highly skilled and experienced at performing a wide range of pet surgeries, from routine spays and neuters to emergency procedures, using the most modern techniques and equipment. We strive to always adhere to the highest standards of care in everything we do, keeping the safety and comfort of our patients as our top priority. We use only the safest anesthetic products and cutting edge monitoring equipment to ensure our patients' wellbeing at all times while in our care.

The surgical process at Henry County Animal Hospital begins with a thorough pre-operative exam, including diagnostic testing, to be certain that your pet is well enough to undergo surgery. Certain pets, such as those that are older or that suffer from existing medical conditions, may be considered higher risk and must therefore be treated with an extra level of care. If we receive the thumbs up to proceed, we'll then begin developing a customized pain management plan for your pet. We want to keep them as comfortable as possible while also minimizing risk, so we'll tailor the pain control to your companion's specific needs and risk factors.

During surgery, our veterinarians will work diligently to perform the necessary procedure as quickly and efficiently as possible, while also accounting for even the most minute details. Your pet will be closely monitored by our highly skilled veterinary technicians, who will measure such critical things as blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen level. Our care team will be on hand throughout the entire procedure to assist the doctors, manage your pet's pain control and ensure their wellbeing – before, during and following surgery.

When the procedure is complete, we'll carefully relocate your pet to our recovery area, where they will continue to be closely monitored. Once we feel it's safe enough to send them home, we'll give you a call to explain how everything went and schedule a pickup time. Before you bring your pet home, a member of our team will explain any post-surgical care instructions that we may have, including pain management, if necessary, to help your pet recover as comfortably as possible. Should you have any questions or concerns about your pet's surgery or after-care once you return home, we encourage you to call us right away. We're always happy to help!

Whatever your pet's surgical needs, whether routine or complex, we want you to feel confident that they will be in caring, capable hands with our surgical team. We'll have them fixed up and back on track to a normal, active lifestyle as quickly as possible.
